The Stellar-mass Function of Long Gamma-Ray Burst Host Galaxies

چکیده

Abstract Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been discussed as a potential tool to probe the cosmic star formation rate (SFR) for long time. Some studies found an enhancement in GRB relative galaxy-inferred SFR at high redshifts, which indicates that GRBs may not be good tracers of formation. However, these studies, measured any redshift is average over all galaxies epoch. A deep understanding connection between production and environment also needs characterize population host directly. Based on complete sample hosts, we constrain stellar-mass function (SMF) examine evolution population. Our results confirm strong energy (with index ? = 2.47 ? 0.89 + 0.73 ) or density ( ={1.82}_{-0.59}^{+0.22}$?> 1.82 0.59 0.22 needed order account observations. Low-Mass and Metal-Poor Gamma-Ray Burst Host Galaxies

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are cosmologically distributed, very energetic and very transient sources detected in the γ-ray domain. The identification of their x-ray and optical afterglows allowed so far the redshift measurement of 150 events, from z = 0.01 to z = 6.29. For about half of them, we have some knowledge of the properties of the parent galaxy. At high redshift (z > 2), absorption lines ...

On the Distribution of Stellar Masses in Gamma-ray Burst Host Galaxies

We analyse Spitzer images of 30 long-duration gamma-ray burst (GRB) host galaxies. We estimate their total stellar masses (M⋆) based on the rest-frame K-band luminosities and constrain their unobscured star-formation rates (SFR) based on the rest-frame UV continuua. Further, we compute a mean M⋆/LKrest = 0.45M⊙/L⊙. We find that the hosts are low M⋆, star-forming systems. The median M⋆ in our sa...

The submillimetre properties of gamma-ray burst host galaxies

Long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) accompany the deaths of some massive stars and hence, because massive stars are short-lived, are a tracer of star formation activity. Given that GRBs are bright enough to be seen to very high redshifts and detected even in dusty environments, they should therefore provide a powerful probe of the global star formation history of the Universe. The potential o...

The Blue Colors of Gamma-ray Burst Host Galaxies

There is now an increasing number of evidence supporting the idea that the cosmic Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) originate from the collapse of massive stars in distant starforming galaxies. Because GRBs are likely detectable up to very high redshift, and because the gamma-rays are not attenuated by intervening columns of gas and dust, these phenomena thus offer a unique perspective to probe the star ...

Millimetric properties of gamma ray burst host galaxies

We present millimetre (mm) and submillimetre (submm) photometry of a sample of five host galaxies of Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs), obtained using the MAMBO2 and SCUBA bolometer arrays respectively. These observations were obtained as part of an ongoing project to investigate the status of GRBs as indicators of star formation. Our targets include two of the most unusual GRB host galaxies, selected as...
